The Autism Treatment Center employs a variety of therapeutic and educational techniques that offer the best opportunity for each child and adult to reach his or her full potential. Equine therapy is one of those techniques as it provides a calming and soothing effect for children.
The playful nature of animals in general, and horses in particular, allows children who normally isolate themselves to open up and become more expressive of their thoughts and emotions. Additionally, as children ride the horses, posture and balance improve as they imitate the rhythmic gait of the horse. This improvement in body motion is beneficial as other therapeutic services are employed to increase coordination and other physical skills.
Proceeds from previous years Fund-a-Cause have helped ATC open a Medicaid approved Outpatient Rehabilitation Agency providing Diagnostics, Speech Therapy, and Occupational Therapy and to renovate and update the group homes that ATC owns and operates.
