2016 Roundup Spirit Award

Leslie Arnold

For over 25 years Leslie Shelton Arnold has been involved in the Roundup for Autism.

Leslie began volunteering with Roundup when we launched our first Parade and Rodeo in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Bob Shelton, Leslie’s father was our first Spirit Award recipient in 1999. Bob was Roundup’s Rodeo Manager and Producer for years, and Leslie was right by his side helping him manage and execute the event. The amount of work it takes to pull off a charity rodeo is an enormous effort, yet Leslie never complained, took the bull by the horns and sometimes even took the cowboys by their stirrups to get the job done.

After a long night of rodeo dirt, sweat, no sleep, and aches and pains from chasing down, cattle, bulls, sheep, cowboys, celebrities and most of all Bob, Leslie never skipped a beat!  Her dedication to the events didn’t stop there. She was up the next morning helping set up Pegasus Ball gala auction items, and assisting with all the last minute details.

When we decided to move on from the rodeo and produce our newest event a two-day sorting in Alvarado, Leslie jumped in as our Sorting Auction Manager. Last year she single handily solicited over $15,000 in silent auction items, and produced that portion of the event. Again, her dedication never swayed, she was at the hotel first thing in the morning to help with gala set up.

Some would ask why do volunteers like Leslie Shelton Arnold stick around for 25 years and dedicate hundreds of hours (probably thousands over the years) of their time to support the Roundup for Autism? It’s certainly not for the glam, the glory or the recognition.  In the words of her Father Bob, “We do it for the kids, it’s all for the kids and it always will be for the kids”. Those words, thoughts, feelings and deeds have carried on to the next generation.

So we thank you Leslie Shelton Arnold for your many years of dedication, love, support and selfless efforts to help the Roundup for Autism raise the much-needed funds for the Autism Treatment Centers of Texas. It’s amazing people like you who have brought us to our 28th year!

We consider you a lifelong part of the Roundup family, may you continue to bless those less fortunate as you have blessed us through the years!

We thank Leslie for her tireless work and friendship.
